MLB Rumors: A pitcher for the New York Mets cruelly disparages New York Yankees fans

The goal of the New York Mets' Amazin' Day celebration is to thank the supporters and generate excitement for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. On Saturday afternoon, A.J. Minter discovered a method to accomplish both of those goals.

Despite just agreeing to a two-year, $22 million deal with the team, the left-handed relief pitcher is already familiar with Queens. Minter took aim directly at New York Yankees supporters while taking part in one of Saturday's sessions.

According to SNY, the 2021 World Series champion remarked, "You can tell Mets fans are truly baseball fans." Unlike the opposite side of town, they receive baseball. These are the real ardent supporters.  They will stick by you through thick and thin. I've faced you all throughout my career, and each time you delivered, you never let me down. Thus, {I} am eager to pitch for you all right now.

According to StatMuse, Minter made 46 appearances versus the Mets during his time with the Atlanta Braves, several of which took place at Citi Field. He is therefore somewhat credible in assessing the support base of his new squad. But he can't talk about Yankee Stadium with such authority. If and when the southpaw takes the mound in this season's Subway Series, the Bronx will keep his comments in mind.

Since Juan Soto switched pinstripes in December, the two New York fan bases have been hurling insults at one another. The players might be prepared to partake in the enjoyment. Miner is rapidly integrating into the community and establishing a relationship with the Flushing ardent supporters. However, he will ideally make his most impact in the bullpen.

Carlos Mendoza, a nominee for Manager of the Year, managed a respectable bullpen unit that finished in the top half of the NL, but Minter might be able to serve as an essential link to closer Edwin Diaz. In 34.1 innings pitched in 2024, the 31-year-old Texas native produced a 2.62 ERA, 35 strikeouts, and a pitiful.198 batting average against.

The Mets are making a significant financial investment in the hopes that A.J. Minter would provide stability in the later innings. He is making every effort to immediately begin earning his contract. One has to wonder if Minter's deal includes a "mock Yankees fans" incentive given his desire to make fun of other fans.

As the year goes on, expect this story to intensify. The first meeting between the New York teams takes place in Yankee Stadium during a three-game series in May.
