Boston Red Sox Predicted to Land Sandy Alcantara in Blockbuster 2025 Trade

MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox Predicted to Land Sandy Alcantara in Blockbuster 2025 Trade

One MLB insider has predicted that the Boston Red Sox will trade for Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara in 2025.

Red Sox Looking to Make Another Major Move

This past winter was a busy one for the Boston Red Sox. After missing the playoffs for the last couple of years, the team made significant upgrades to the roster. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow added impact players such as ace Garrett Crochet, starting pitcher Walker Buehler, and third baseman Alex Bregman. Still, there's always room for improvement.

In his 2025 predictions article, MLB insider Jim Bowden predicted that Breslow will land another big fish: Miami Marlins top starter Sandy Alcantara.

“The Marlins trade Sandy Alcantara to the Red Sox for right fielder Wilyer Abreu and a prospect package of righty Luis Perales, infielder Franklin Arias, and righty Juan Valera,” wrote Bowden in his latest article.

Red Sox Rotation Could Become One of MLB's Best

The Red Sox have painstakingly rebuilt their farm system, making it one of the best in baseball. Top prospect Kristian Campbell is set to start the season in the majors, likely as the starting second baseman. Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer could also make their debuts this season.

With a rotation fronted by Crochet and Buehler, adding Alcantara would give Boston one of the most formidable pitching staffs in the majors. If the Red Sox are in the playoff hunt, would Breslow pull the trigger? Given his aggressive approach, this trade seems like a move he would seriously consider.

Boston Can Afford This Trade Package

In this proposed deal for Alcantara, the Red Sox have the depth to make it work. Abreu had a strong rookie season in 2024, but with Anthony potentially ready to take over in right field, Boston can afford to part with him. The trio of Campbell, Anthony, and Mayer is expected to have a major impact at Fenway Park this season, which could push the Red Sox into the thick of the pennant race.

While parting with top prospects might sting, acquiring a Cy Young-caliber pitcher like Alcantara would be worth the price. If Alcantara returns to elite form and Buehler and Crochet impress in their first season in Boston, expect Breslow to stay aggressive in building a championship contender. With a trade of this magnitude, the franchise’s 10th World Series title could be within reach.
