MLB Rumors: In their first significant 2025 acquisition, the Atlanta Braves sign MLB All-Star outfielder Jurickson Profar.
At last, the Atlanta Braves have taken action.
Through the middle of January, the Braves had had a calm winter because the most of the roster moves were subtractions rather than additions. Max Fried, Charlie Morton, Travis d'Arnaud, Jorge Soler, and A.J. Minter were among those that left.
The Braves needed to make improvements in two key areas as Spring Training drew near: the outfield and the starting rotation. Both corner outfield positions are in turmoil as 2023 National League Most Valuable Player Ronald Acuña Jr. is currently recovering from an ACL tear.
The Braves made significant progress in meeting one of those objectives on Thursday.
According to reports, Jurickson Profar, a 2024 All-Star left fielder for the San Diego Padres, has agreed to a free-agent contract with Atlanta. The contract's duration and amount were unknown at the time of publication.
Robert Murray of FanSided was the first to post about the agreement on social media.
The 31-year-old Profar was once a prospect sensation, but it took him 11 Major League Baseball seasons to earn an All-Star selection. But with a.280/.380/.459 slash line and 3.6 bWAR, he was the Padres' mainstay in 2024.
The Braves' outfield situation, which appeared somewhat dire without Acuña, has improved greatly with the addition of Profar. Jarred Kelenic and Bryan De La Cruz were expected to start until Acuña returned, with Michael Harris serving as the regular center fielder.
Kelenic and De La Cruz can platoon for the time being, Profar fits in wonderfully as the left fielder, and if Acuña returns to his normal form, he will offer the Braves one of baseball's top outfields once again.
