MLB Trade Rumors: Boston Red Sox favorite to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The slugger apparently has his eye on one American League team, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said on Tuesday that he will test free agency following the 2019 season.
After spring training began, Guerrero informed the Blue Jays that he would not be open to negotiating a contract extension. The 25-year-old is adamant that he is adhering to that commitment. Guerrero stated on Tuesday that the Blue Jays will "have to compete with 29 other teams" to sign him next winter because there is currently no deal in place.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports claims that Guerrero has previously expressed his desire to play for the Boston Red Sox to those who are close to him.
It’s no secret that Vladimir Guerrero has told friends that if he hits free agency, he’d love to play for the Boston Red Sox. Free agency begins in 8 1/2 months as Guerrero officially enters spring without a contract extension.

Guerrero will most likely rank among the highest-paid free agents in MLB history if he does become a free agent. The Red Sox have made some good offseason additions, but they haven't been able to match the highest bidder for recent high-profile free agents like Juan Soto.
Whether Boston would be prepared to buck the recent trend for Guerrero is still out in the air. However, some people think that a chase for Guerrero is even less likely now that they have made such a significant signing.
Last season, Guerrero had a.323 batting average, 30 home runs, and 103 RBI. If he has a similar year in 2025, the cost to sign him will only increase.
Although Guerrero has long stated that he would be amenable to completing his career in Toronto, it is clear that he is unhappy with the current state of the talks between the two parties.
We doubt Guerrero would be ready to provide the Red Sox any kind of open market discount, even if they were at the top of his wish list.
