MLB Rumors: Following the Anthony Santander trade, the Toronto Blue Jays want Pete Alonso and Jurickson Profar.

Throughout this offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays have been under heavy fire for not making a significant move. Big targets like Tanner Scott and Roki Sasaki were passed over by Toronto. Despite missing out on the majority of the best pitchers this summer, the Blue Jays made a significant impact by focusing on the opposite side.

Anthony Santander, a former slugger for the Baltimore Orioles, is moving to Toronto on a five-year, $92.5 million deal. Alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., he will provide the Blue Jays a strong bat and should boost their offensive output right away. According to MLB expert Hector Gomez, the Blue Jays could not be done getting big bats despite the significant signing.

Gomez wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "SOURCE: The Blue Jays want to land one or Jurickson Profar and Pete Alonso."

Throughout this free agency season, there has been a lot of talk about Alonso and the Blue Jays, and it now appears to be getting even more heated. If Toronto were to acquire one of the MLB's home run kings, there's no doubt that he would be a huge acquisition. Alonso, who has played at least 152 games in five of his six seasons in New York, has smashed 226 home runs and is among the most available players in baseball.

Given that Guerrero Jr. and Alonso both play first base, the main concern surrounding a possible marriage between the two is what would happen to him. It would probably not be an issue if one of them had to be the designated hitter because that plays to both of their talents. If necessary, Guerrero Jr. could also play third base.

Although Profar lacks Alonso's pop at the plate, he just finished a 2024 season with the San Diego Padres in which he hit a career-high 24 home runs.

He would be a great asset to the squad because he is a versatile player who can contribute almost anywhere on the field and even be effective close to the bottom of the lineup.

The Blue Jays have gained some momentum in this free agency period after signing Santander, but it's unclear what the current level of interest is between them and their top targets. They might soon make another big signing as a result of that boost.
