MLB Trade Rumors: Nolan Arenado’s Dodgers Homecoming on Hold as LA Bets on Max Muncy
The St. Louis Cardinals are still shopping Nolan Arenado, but a long-speculated trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers remains unlikely — at least for now.
Despite Arenado listing the Dodgers among a small group of teams he’d accept a trade to, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that Los Angeles has not shown interest in acquiring the All-Star third baseman. The organization is still hoping Max Muncy can turn things around offensively before exploring external upgrades.
Dodgers Staying Patient with Muncy
Muncy, a key part of two Dodgers World Series championships (2020 and 2024), is off to a poor start. In 31 games this season, he’s batting just .184 with one home run, five RBIs, and 37 strikeouts in 98 at-bats. Despite the struggles, the Dodgers appear committed to giving Muncy time to bounce back before making any major moves.
Arenado Still Producing — and Still Available
Meanwhile, Arenado — a Los Angeles native — would represent a strong upgrade at third base. He’s slashing .237/.326/.395 through 30 games with three home runs, 13 RBIs, and just 10 strikeouts in 114 at-bats. He remains one of the league’s premier defenders at the hot corner, with 10 Gold Gloves to his name.
The Cardinals reportedly explored trades with other clubs, including the Houston Astros, but Arenado’s no-trade clause limited options. If LA ultimately passes, St. Louis may struggle to find a suitable partner for a deal unless Arenado expands his list.
Dodgers in No Rush — But Clock Is Ticking
With the NL West shaping up to be ultra-competitive, the Dodgers may eventually be forced to pivot if Muncy’s slump continues. For now, though, a Dodger Stadium homecoming for Arenado will have to wait — if it happens at all.
