MLB Rumors: Aaron Boone, manager of New York Yankees, criticizes LA Dodgers for their lack of "class."
The recent remarks made by certain Los Angeles Dodgers players in the media have not pleased Aaron Boone.
In an interview with ESPN's Jeff Passan this week, Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, made fun of the Dodgers. Boone claimed that he was offended by certain Dodgers' dubious public comments about his club following the 2024 World Series, saying it lacked "class."
Boone was cited as saying, "The truth is we didn't play our best in the series and they won, so they had that right to say whatever." "Hopefully, we'll be in that situation the following year and manage things a bit more elegantly. In actuality, though, it's a fantastic team and company with many wonderful people who I also happen to know and admire. Therefore, I wouldn't necessarily want to draft it that way based on a few people's opinions.
Boone was explicitly responding to remarks made in separate podcast appearances in November by Dodgers utilityman Chris Taylor and reliever Joe Kelly. Kelly claimed that the Yankees' defensive shortcomings were "well-known" and even referred to them as "sloppy" on the "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast. Later that month, Taylor made the joke that the Yankees "had s–t [running] down their leg" on Dodgers player Mookie Betts' podcast.
You can view Kelly's and Taylor's comments below, but be sure to watch out for foul language.
During their five-game World Series loss to the Dodgers, the Yankees did in fact commit a number of heinous field errors, particularly in the pivotal Game 5. Throughout the regular season, they also had trouble with defensive errors, and it's obvious that the Yankees had earned a bad reputation among opponents and fans alike for having weak fundamentals.
However, Boone is objecting to the Dodgers' public mockery of his team, particularly after they defeated the Yankees in the World Series. Boone is eager for the chance to demonstrate to the Dodgers what winning with class (by his definition) looks like next season, even if he was also accountable for a few significant misfires during that series.
